Here we are now/Entertain us!
Okay, here's one of those posts where I recommend entertainment to my readers, because I have nothing important to say.
First of all, I think HomestarRunner.com, the flash cartoon site, is the greatest invention of man since that one monkey in 2001: A Space Oddessey found out he could use a stick to beat the other mokey's ass (or, if you prefer, Cain and Able). If you do not visit that website regularly you are missing out on some of the most unique and original humor since God invented monkeys that hit each other. The site manages to amazingly funny without ever resorting to profanity or dirty jokes or any of that crappy humor you see on this blog. Genuinely funny people don't need to rely on that crutch, like I do. Here is the Wikipedia entry that describes the website in more detail. If you are a child of the 80's, like me, then there's plenty of wonderful nostalgia in the humor on Homestar Runner. I know most people my age remember playing MegaMan when we were kids, so I imagine you'd enjoy this free MegaMan-styled game, Stinkoman 20X6. I'm hooked on it.
Another great online cartoon is Red vs. Blue. It's made with a type of animation that uses the video game Halo's multiplayer, with dubbed over voice over and sound effects. Here is the Wikipedia description for Red vs. Blue. The plot revolves around two armies, the Red Army and the Blue Army, who have both set up bases in a box canyon (the Blood Gulch map from Halo multiplayer), and occasionally kind of fight each other, but usually just hang around and bitch at each other. Basically the premise is that you have a bunch of soldiers who act like video game players. Unlike Homestar Runner, this one does have some naughty language. If you go to their website they have the entirety of the current season, season 3, so far available, and a rotating archive from which you can download all of the season 1 & 2 episodes, though you can only download 4 or 5 episodes until it rotates again, which is usually every couple of days. If you can't wait that long you can usually find other sites that have the episodes available for download (this site has episodes 1 - 37) All of season 1 & 2 are also available on DVD through the site, and at most video game stores. Definitely worth checking out. They are usually about 5 minutes an episode, with an occasional episode that approaches twenty minutes, and there are 18 episodes in a complete season, along with a few holiday or P.S.A. episodes that aren't part of the running story. Between RvB and Homestar Runner you can get much better entertainment online than on TV, but only because the Simpsons has sucked lately.
The X-Files spin-off, The Lone Gunmen, is supposed to have come out on DVD today. The show ran for less than one season, and I probably saw about half of the episodes, and I thought it was a pretty decent show. It's much more of a comedy than you'd expect from an X-Files spin-off, and while some of the stories were kind of dumb, I remember the show being consistantly funny. I don't know if I'll be buying the DVD sometime soon, since I've been trying really hard to save my money lately, but I am very interested in checking this DVD out. The TV show was particularly noteworthy because of it's infamous pilot episode, which revolved around a conspiracy to crash a 727 into the World Trade Center, and I believe the show was cancelled before September 11th 2001. The DVD is said to include all 13 episodes in the series, as well as an X-Files episode that was used to tie up some of the loose ends after the show was cancelled.
Feel free to post anything that you think my readers or I should check out in the comments.

I wish I had a hot T-shirt babe...
Congratulations to Frank J and SarahK. May their children inherit SarahK's beauty and Frank's, uh... hmm... um, gun collection, I guess. And maybe some money.
Oh, and, uh, Frank... I know you can do it, champ!

Please don't tell Mr. Incredible
I may be a total freak, but at least I'm in good company in thinking Elasti-Girl (aka Mrs. Incredible, from Pixar's The Incredibles) was totally smoking hot!
UPDATE: Wow, this topic even comes up on the Wikipedia entry for the Incredibles:
|
UPDATE: Wow, this topic even comes up on the Wikipedia entry for the Incredibles:
From forums dedicated to "The Incredibles" on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, IGN.com, to personal blogsites, and even online film reviews, there is a question—obviously by male viewers—on whether or not it is right to say the characters of Mirage and Elastigirl are sexy eye-candy.
A reviewer for InnerArt.com of "The Incredibles": Since this is animation, we lose out on the pleasure of Holly [Hunter] in the flesh, but Elastigirl certainly fills out a lycra spandex suit in the best possible way. Another fan described her as the ideal life-mate. Smart, capable, funny, sweet, loyal, strong, sexy... Her heat is what we bring to her. (IMDB thread).
Unlike the overblown Jessica Rabbit, this character seems to appeal to the human side.

Stabbing Leftward
As usual, ex-leftist Charles Krauthammer nails the Left:
Hey leftists, don't you get tired of being wrong all the time? For that matter, don't you ever get tired of being dictator apologist, tyrant-fellating fucktards?
|
A leftist judge in Spain orders the arrest of a pathetic, near-senile Gen. Augusto Pinochet eight years after he's left office, and becomes a human rights hero -- a classic example of the left morally grandstanding in the name of victims of dictatorships long gone. Yet for the victims of contemporary monsters still actively killing and oppressing -- Khomeini and his successors, the Assads of Syria and, until yesterday, Hussein and his sons -- nothing. No sympathy. No action. Indeed, virulent hostility to America's courageous and dangerous attempt at rescue.
The international left's concern for human rights turns out to be nothing more than a useful weapon for its anti-Americanism. Jeane Kirkpatrick pointed out this selective concern for the victims of U.S. allies (such as Chile) 25 years ago. After the Cold War, the hypocrisy continues. For which Arab people do European hearts burn? The Palestinians. Why? Because that permits the vilification of Israel -- an outpost of Western democracy and, even worse, a staunch U.S. ally. Championing suffering Iraqis, Syrians and Lebanese offers no such satisfaction. Hence, silence.
Until now. Now that the real Arab street has risen to claim rights that the West takes for granted, the left takes note. It is forced to acknowledge that those brutish Americans led by their simpleton cowboy might have been right. It has no choice. It is shamed. A Lebanese, amid a sea of a million other Lebanese, raises a placard reading "Thank you, George W. Bush," and all that Euro-pretense, moral and intellectual, collapses.
Hey leftists, don't you get tired of being wrong all the time? For that matter, don't you ever get tired of being dictator apologist, tyrant-fellating fucktards?

Do any of these books not suck?
I have to read one of the following novels for my Intro to Fiction class. If anyone out there has read any of these and decided that it did not suck please let me know in the comments for this post:
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Hours by Michael Cunningham
My Home is Far Away by Dawn Powell
A House for Mr. Biswas by V.S. Naipul (Scratch that one! I was checking it out at Barnes & Noble and it is fucking huge! I am not reading that shit.)
Passage to India by E.M. Forster
Please let me know if any of these books is relatively free of suck... ness. Any of these you'd recommend? Preferably something with a minimum of symbolism or artsy bullshit (though in this class I'm not going to get my hopes up). Gratuitous violence a definite plus.

Breaking News!
Court decides celebrities still legally permitted to commit murder.
|
Ya know, this open wound could really use some salt...
I just found out that the awesome Glenn Beck Program is being taken off the air here in Cleveland, because WTAM (1100 AM in Cleveland area), who also air the Rush Limbaugh program here in Cleveland, wants to bring "a progressive point of view to the airwaves." So who have they chosen to replace Glenn Beck in the mornings? Jerry-fucking-Springer!! What kind of sick, sadistic world do we live in?
If anybody needs me I'll be in my room, seriously contemplating copulation with a lemon.

The VRWC is everywhere!
Okay, here's a funny story from school today that I will try to recount from memory, but keep in mind that I suck and am retarded so events may not have occured exactly as I describe them.
Anyway, for God knows what reason I decided to take an Intro to Fiction course at school this semester. To set up the story, there's a student in this class who sometimes sits next to me, but is rarely in class. Today was probably the third or forth time I remember seeing him in class since the semester started in January of this year. The professor of this class has a cute little habit of throwing out the occasional morsel of left-wing bullshit with questionable relevance to the topic at hand. From time to time the professor does assert that there are sources backing up the aforementioned bullshit, but what those sources may be is left to speculation. So, in today's class this professor commented that she was apprehensive about using a bad word in class (the word was "damn", for any readers out there who have actually watched a PG-rated movie before) because, according to her, there are "far-right groups" who will apparently plant students in college courses, and try to get the professors in trouble for saying naughty things. Anyway, I thought this next part was absolutely hilarious, after the teacher's comment the student next to me who never shows up leaned over to me and whispered "That's actually why I'm here today."
LAUGH!
Yes, I swear to God this actually happened. The student next to me could not have had any idea of my own hard-right political leanings. As soon as the professor made that remark he just said it without missing a beat.

Quote of the day
From the always awesome Kim du Toit,
Simultaneously sad and hilarious.

Along the way, it’s really no surprise that today’s yoot looks on women simply as life support systems for a vagina.
Simultaneously sad and hilarious.

Two separate points:
MA, that article you linked to through Claire Wolfe's blog is wrong.
Libertarian party line is pretty well set against corporations existing at all, and with fairly good arguements. The thing is, They really do at least as much to keep a lassaiz-faire economy going as to halt it. Now there are some serious problems with the way the current system is set up, but these are artificially created, not endemic to the system.
Also, Video Games. http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2005-03-04 has a rant up today which is worth skimming, and his links are worth reading. Does anyone honestly believe that any video game EVER has caused violent behavior? Specifically in a way which abbrogates personal responsibility, even slightly?
If you disagree, I'd love to hear from you, but I can't see anything except pure scapegoating here.
